GERALDINE NOSKOWIAK Car Plunges Into Lake, Killing Two From Manitowoc MANITOWOC-The bodies of a young Manitowoc couple, whom friends said were out seeking a place for their wedding reception, were found Thursday in Grotegut Lake about 10 miles south of Manitowoc. Their car had plunged into the artificial lake sometime Sunday. The deaths of Michael Naumann, 21, of 913A S. 14th St. and his fiancée, Geraldine Noskowiak, 20, of 1010 Flambeau St., brought Wisconsin's 1967 highway toll to 370, compared with 371 on this date a year ago. Manitowoc County authorities said the bodies were discovered by Ervin Stock of Newton, when Stock was driving on the Ival Grotegut farm driveway and happened to see the two bodies floating in the lake, County Traffic Dept. was notified at 4:07 p.m. Thursday. Aerial Protruded Eugene Springstube, a sheriff's deputy, donned diving gear and hooked a chain to the car, which was then towed out of the lake by a wrecker. Only about eight inches of the car aerial protruded above the surface, Sgt. Ervin Elfner, county traffic officer, said. "We felt that they must have tried to get out, and that's the reason the bodies rose to the surface," Sergeant Elfner said in reporting that the right rear door was open. The sheriff's department was informed by Naumann's father at 2 p.m. Monday that the couple was missing. The two were last seen Sunday evening. Naumann's watch had stopped at 6:07 p.m. Traffic police said the car crossed to the left side of the town road, near Newton, jumped a ditch and skidded into the lake which is about 14 feet deep and an acre in size.
